In September 2005, through a special grant from the Loyola Schools, the Fine Arts Program established a new media laboratory for information design and digital media in rooms CTC318 to 322 of the PLDT Convergent Technologies Center. With its complement of Apple Macintosh workstations and other equipment for digital printing and photography, web development and broadcasting, and video and audio production, this laboratory is the appropriate seedbed for information design and digital media in the Ateneo de Manila University.
In partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Center for Investigative Journalism of the Department of Communication, the AIDS shall acquire additional equipment for advanced video and audio production in the second semester of the academic year 2005-2006, and is currently planning to integrate the facilities Multimedia and Information Resource Laboratory (MIR Lab) of the Center for Communications Research and Technology of the Department of Communication into the AIDS facility.
Because of these developments, the identity and strategy of the Ateneo's design center is still evolving. In the meantime, it is simply the Ateneo Information Design Studio, and Michael-Ali D. Figueroa, a lecturer of the Fine Arts Program serves as its founding coordinator.
