B. Social Health Insurance Project

The model-building program on Social Health Insurance (SHI) is a province-wide undertaking in the Province of Batanes. Dubbed as Kapanidungan sa Kalusugan or KsK (from the Ivatan word for Solidarity), the program brings together all stakeholders in effectively addressing the health needs of the whole province. Through the KsK, local government units and their facilities agree to integrate their health agenda; collaborate, coordinate and align their health activities and projects; share resources; and, establish a social health insurance program that can help reduce the burden of poverty in the province.

The SHI component is supported by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt International e.V (AWO) of Germany.

C. School Health and Community-based Sanitation

An initiative on water and sanitation both in the school and community setting is underway in a peri-urban community in Antipolo. The project enhances the capability of local stakeholders in responding to their water and sanitation needs. Appropriate and sustainable technologies on water and sanitation are also introduced in a way that allows the community to manage the facilities on their own.

In partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), the Institute is also involved in the training of public elementary school teachers as school-based health workers. School health as a capability building measure for the school and the community is also being undertaken using the FRESH (Focusing Resources for an Effective School Health) framework.

D. Training, Research and Consultancy

The Institute supports training and research activities and consultancy services on the areas of primary and community-based health care; holistic health, wellness and healing; occupational safety and health; school health; social health insurance; water and community-based sanitation; and, health care financing.
