MA Theological Studies
The M.A. in Theological Studies (36 units with thesis) can be obtained through the program offered by the Formation Institute for Religion Educators (FIRE), a joint effort of the Theology Department with the Loyola School of Theology, The FIRE offers scholarships designed to form highly qualified and motivated teachers/catechists personally committed to the vocation of educating Filipinos in Christian Faith.
The program aims to help students acquire a high professional and scientific competence in one of the following areas of theology: Scripture, Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology, and Religious Education, and to help them manifest in a scholarly thesis the capacity for disciplined research, clear communication, and both critical and creative theological reflection regarding situations and problems facing the Christian community in the Philippines and Asia.
Sixty units of course and thesis work are required. Comprehensive examinations must also be taken.
A student who has been definitely accepted into the Ph.D. program after completing 18 units, may avail of courses offered through the Consortium for Theological Studies of which LST is a member institution. Students may cross-enroll at the University of Santo Tomas, or for tutorial courses of the doctorate faculty of the consortium. Students apply for such tutorials at the LST office.
