THE BLUEPLATE FOR BETTER LEARNING FEEDING PROGRAM

The Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) spearheads the university’s effort in helping uplift public basic education in the country. This is in line with the conviction that for our country to move forward, we need to give attention to the public school system where 92% of our Filipino school children are enrolled.

The initial experience of ACED with the total school development approach led to the implementation of feeding programs. Very clearly, we saw that no matter how much we train the teachers or provide instructional materials, hungry children cannot learn.

Thus, through the support of the Ateneo Professional Schools, the Ateneo de Manila launched Blueplate for Better Learning – a daily in-school feeding program that began in July 2011 as part of an ongoing effort to improve student achievement in public schools. It targets 4,000 malnourished students in 4 public elementary schools in Quezon City including Commonwealth Elementary School, Doña Juana Elementary School, San Diego Elementary School and Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School. The program provides delicious and nutritious full meals on a daily basis.
