Dr. Edward de Bono is regarded by many as the leading authority in the world in the field of creative thinking as a skill.

He has written over 70 books with translations into 40 languages and has been invited to lecture in 58 countries. He is the originator of lateral thinking, which treats creativity as the behaviour of information in a self organising information system such as the neutral networks in the brain. From such a consideration arises the deliberate and formal tools of lateral thinking, parallel thinking and others.

Dr de Bono's background is in medicine and psychology. He was a Rhodes scholar and has held faculty appointments at the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, London and Harvard. His medical background in biological information systems inspired and enabled him to design thinking tools and methods that have made the elusive subject of creativity accessible in a practical way.

In the book The Mechanism of Mind (Viking Penguin 1969), Dr de Bono first described how the nerve networks in the brain behave as a self-organising system. It is from this serious base that he has designed his methodologies and tools for thinking. Dr de Bono is the inventor of the Six Thinking Hats® , Lateral Thinking™, DATT™ methods and the creative thinking technique "po". He is also the designer of the CoRT Thinking Programme for schools, which is the most widely used programme internationally for the direct teaching of thinking as a curriculum subject.

Dr de Bono has worked with IBM, Shell, Siemens, Motorola, M&M Mars, Hoechst-Celanese, Citicorp, Ericsson, Total, Monte-Edison, Ciba-Geigy, the Singapore Civil Service College and Kuwait Oil Company, to name a few. Dr de Bono is regularly called upon to address major international conventions. In recognition of his work, the European Creativity Association requested the official naming Committee of the International Astronomical Union (Massachusetts) to name a planet after him and so DE73 became Edebono.

In 1991, Dr de Bono arranged for the incorporation of Advanced Practical Thinking Training, Inc. ® to publish his training materials and to certify instructors to teach his thinking methods. The APTT ® network now spans over 30 countries. In Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Taiwan, Dr de Bono is officially represented by Thinking Management Techniques Pte Ltd. Its associate company, Edward de Bono Training Pte Ltd, is the sole distributor of legal de Bono training materials for the region.
