The Office for Social Concern and Involvement is the main conscientization arm of the Loyola Schools. Through its alternative education programs, OSCI helps in the formation of young men and women to become persons for others, promoting social justice through solidarity to the poor. Its programs help students realize that talents and gifts are to be developed not for self-satisfaction, but rather with the help of God, for the betterment of human society.

Brief History

The Office for Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI) since its establishment in April 1975 has sought several approaches to respond to the call of Jesuit education of forming ‘persons-for-others’ among its students. From traditional immersions in rural and urban communities to relief drives and mobilization for advocacy works, the OSCI has been an active partner in imbibing to the Ateneans their deep sense of social responsibility.

Today, OSCI continues to serve its mission and envisions itself as the center of student social formation in the Loyola Schools. To achieve this, it aims to: 1.) promote awareness of the reality of poverty through experiential learning; 2.) integrate service-learning in all academic disciplines of the Loyola Schools; 3.) foster social awareness, and 4.) serve as the link of the Loyola Schools to marginalized sectors through solidarity action and advocacy work.

A. First Year: Introduction to Ateneo Culture and Traditions (INTACT)

The Introduction to Ateneo Culture and Tradition (INTACT) is a formation program for first year students of the Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University. It is designed primarily to promote and instill among the first year Ateneo’s way of life. Hopefully, the students may take hold of Ateneo Holistic formation, which is based upon the ideals of academic excellence, social responsibility, spiritual maturity, and cultural rootedness.

The Ibang CLASE, or the Cultural Learning and Service Experience supervised by the Office for Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI) is one of the major components of the INTACT program.

B.Second Year: National Service Training Program2 (NSTP 2)

In accordance to RA 9163, the Loyola Schools, through the OSCI offers the NSTP 2, which caters to the two components of the prescribed NSTP Program i.e. the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Literacy Training Service (LTS).

The NSTP2 is one-year course for all sophomore students in the Loyola Schools. It aims to provide the Ateneans the opportunity to fulfill their foremost civic duty while instilling in them a sense of social awareness and involvement.

C.Third Year: Junior EngagEment Program (JEEP)

The Junior EngagEment Program is the third-year component of OSCI’s student social formation. It aims to concretize Authentic Christian Humanism in the Ateneans through exposure in the labor sector and through partnership with the Philosophy Department of Ateneo De Manila Loyola Schools.

D.Fourth Year: Theology Immersion and  PRAXIS Program

The PRAXIS Program synthesizes OSCI’s four-year social formation through the integration of technical courses and Theology 141. It serves as a venue for the 4th year students of the Loyola Schools to apply their acquired skills and knowledge to the marginalized communities of our society. It aims to address the students’ role in nation-building through the practice of their chosen field.
