Workbooks for Elementary Schools
In an effort to improve and increase the level of mastery of students in English, Mathematics and Science, the 57/75 Movement sponsored a project on the development of workbooks for Grades 1-6 in these three subject areas. The project, which was supervised by ACED, involves three phases:
Phase I: Workbook Writing
April 14-25, 2008
Writers: Twenty-eight master teachers from the 57/75 pilot sites
Phase II: Editing and Reviewing
Editors: GS Faculty from the Ateneo de Manila University
Phase III: Printing and Distribution to Pilot Sites
Publisher: Art Angel Printshop
Distributed by: ACED and 57/75 Movement
The impact on the use of these materials were monitored by assessing student achievement through the National Achievement Test results. Principals, teachers and students will also be interviewed regarding the effectiveness of the workbooks.
Task Force 57/75 is a private-sector led movement that aims to reverse the education crisis through focused interventions and school-community action, towards system-wide performance improvements. The consortium supports the Department of Education's Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA), particularly in its goal to "enable and empower all schools with their communities to manage their own affairs for improved delivery of education services in a sustainable manner." Ateneo de Manila University President, Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ, is part of the movement's Leader's Council.
ACED was invited by the 57/75 movement to be a partner in the development of public schools in the six pilot sites, namely Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Guimaras Province, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Ilo-Ilo City, Ilo-Ilo, Province of Pampanga and San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.
