Advent Recollection and Christmas Gift Giving for Teachers

ACED have organized an Advent Recollection and Christmas Gift Giving for 1,700 public school teachers from the eight partner schools.  Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan opened the event and spoke about the Meaning and Importance of Christmas.  This was followed by a thanksgiving mass presided by Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ, president of the Ateneo de Manila University.  After the mass, the teachers assembled at the Bellarmine Field to receive their gift bags that contain assorted grocery items collected through the generous help of friends from the Ateneo community, private groups and institutions.

Books and Toy Drive through Calvo and Clark, Guam

Atty. Rodney Jacob and his family have mobilized the people of Guam to contribute to the work of ACED with public schools.  Last October 2008, the family was able to collect two container vans of story books, toys and school supplies and have sent it to ACED.  These were all distributed to all the indigent students of the ACED partner schools.

Good at Math & English Ka Na Ba?

The ACED, in partnership with the Ateneo High School English and Math Departments, have organized an English and Math competition that were participated in by 750 Grade 3 and Grade 6 students from the eight partner schools.  The competition aimed to encourage interest in Mathematics and English and develop the students' abilities in Math and English proficiency.

Faculty Enhancement & Teambuilding Workshop
for Public School Teachers

The activity has been one of the results of the regular meetings with the partner school principals to conduct a teambuilding workshop for the teachers of the partner schools to strengthen their relationship amongst each other.  The activity was designed to enhance and discover the individuals' potential by using his/her individual equipment (different faculties) for him/her to see his/her role in the overall direction and objective of their respective school.

All 700 teachers from the eight partner schools were divided into two batches.  The program was designed and facilitated by the two Ateneo High School teachers, Mr. Ronan Capinding and Mr. Joseph dela Cruz.  Teachers and staff from the Ateneo High School as well as volunteers of ACED co-facilitated the program.

Dental Mission with Dr. Luz Macapanpan Foundation and
Pediatric Dentistry Center of the Philippines
at Rosa Susano Elementary School

Importance of health, including dental health, in the children's performance in school was seen to be very important in the students' performance in school.  The Ateneo Center for Educational Development partnered with Dr. Luz Macapanpan Foundation and PDCP to conduct a dental mission in Rosa Susano Elementary School.

Volunteer dentists of the foundation provides dental services such as check up, tooth extraction, and prophylaxis to all Grade 5 and 6 students and teachers of the school.  On the other hand, the dentists from the PDCP conducted an interactive lecture to Grade 3 pupils on proper dental care.  The mission has been such a great privilege among the teachers and the students.

Health Fair with Ateneo School of Medicine

The Ateneo Center for Educational Development collaborated with the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health students and doctors to perform physical examination on school-aged children (Grade 1 pupils) in Payatas B Annex ES and to develop a health record database of the pupils.  The activity also delivers interactive developmentally-appropriate health education lessons to Grade 1 pupils that includes brushing of teeth, de-lousing, bathing, nail cutting, and proper hand washing.

Reading Tutorial Programs for Non-Readers with OSCI-NSTP and AHS-CSIP for Payatas B Annex ES, Payatas B ES, Payatas C ES and Bagong Silangan ES

Through this program, students from the Loyola Schools enrolled in NSTP and AHS-CSIP have been tutoring the students in the public schools with difficulties in reading.  Students in the public schools were classified according to their reading capability using the DOLCH Sight test.  The reading materials, A Guide for Helping Children Read which were jointly created by the Office of Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI), ACED and Miriam College were used.

Brigada Eskwela
School Maintenance Week

The Ateneo de Manila University through ACED annually participates in the DepEd's School Maintenance Week dubbed as Brigada Eskwela

For some years now, Brigada Eskwela has always been participated by the students, teachers and staff of the Ateneo de Manila and helps the partner schools prepare their facilities for the coming school year.  The office also seeks funds from private groups and individuals for the materials to be used in the said activity.  The task involves painting or cleaning of classrooms, cleaning of school grounds including trimming of trees and repairing of school furniture and facilities.

Distribution of Skill Building Practice Booklet
for Math and English

The booklets prepared by the Ateneo Center for Educational Development covers lessons which the students are expected to have learned through their elementary schooling.  The booklets were distributed to all eight partner schools to help the schools in the preparation for the Grade 6 National Achievement Test.  The Ateneo Grade School, through their Bigay Puso Program,
has also extended their help by subsidizing the skill books to be used by all Grade 6 students of the three partner schools - Culiat ES, Payatas B ES and Payatas C ES.
