Science and engineering will continue to define the 21st century, with rapid developments in various areas, such as information and computer technology, molecular biology and biotechnology, and materials science. At the same time, we face a number of unprecedented challenges, such as climate change, energy and the environment, and poverty. These challenges require science and engineering, but more than this, we need innovative approaches which are grounded in an understanding of human society.
The strengths of the School of Science & Engineering (SOSE) lie in its interdisciplinary and innovative approaches, combined with a well-rounded Ateneo education. Our programs aim to produce innovative scientists and engineers who will be leaders in the 21st century.
The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experimentation, discovery, problem-solving and creativity.Students are mentored by highly-qualified and dedicated faculty, many of whom have been recognized by numerous awards, such as the Metrobank Outstanding Teachers, the Dr. Juan Salcedo, Jr., Science Education Award, Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS), Ten Outstanding Young Filipinos (TOYF), and the National Academy of Science & Technology (NAST).
In 2009, the Ateneo Innovation Center (AIC) was established to link research at the University with the priorities of the industry and the government. The AIC aims to nurture an innovation ecosystem for the training of students to encourage technology entrepreneurship.
