Communal Advent Service 2008
Ateneo Non-Teaching Personnel and Jesuit Scholastics: Together in Prayer for the Advent Season
In preparation for the Advent season last December 2008, 35 offices of the Ateneo de Manila University community conducted the Communal Advent Services (CAS) led by 20 Jesuit facilitators. The Advent services themed ‘Panahon ng paghahanda, paghihintay, at pagbibigay’ was an opportunity for the staff of the offices from Ateneo Grade School, Ateneo High School, Loyola Schools and Ateneo Professional Schools to once again gather together as a community in prayer.
The one-hour CAS led the Ateneo non-teaching personnel to reflect on the reason of the season—the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It also moved them to pray and share their Christmas prayers, wishes and offerings for their respective office. Wishes and offerings of love and service were written on small stars made of blue and yellow papers and were posted on a Christmas tree hanged in the offices.
The CAS is part of the continuing communal services program of the Office for Mission, Identity, and Organizational development seeking to reinforce sense of community and strengthen values of reflection, prayer and conversations in the natural workgroups in the Ateneo. It is a formation program to commemorate special events in the liturgical/academic calendar, i.e. Lent, start of the school year, and Advent.
