150: The Ateneo Way to be launched at Fully Booked-Taguig Aug. 20
Ateneo de Manila University, Media Wise Communications, Inc./Muse Books and Fully Booked, Inc. cordially invite everyone to the launch of the book 150: The Ateneo Way on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, 5 p.m. at the Top Shelf, 5th level, Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street, The Fort, Taguig City. The coffee-table book is one of the prime memorabilia items being offered in celebration of the sesquicentennial of the Ateneo de Manila and the Society of Jesus in the Philippines.
Based on official documents and personal journals and accounts from the Jesuit archives, 150: The Ateneo Way chronicles Ateneo’s rich history through the colorful narrative written by history professor and archivist of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Jose S. Arcilla, S.J., and edited by Alya Honasan and Krip Yuson. The stories are made even more alive by the priceless and mostly never-been-publicly-released photos from the university archives and the collections of Ateneo alumni.
"The remarkable collection of black-and-white and sepia images alone serves as a scintillating reminder of how a distinctive timeline is etched in our memory, from the very beginning, when 10 Jesuit missionaries—six priests and four coadjutor brothers—arrived in Manila aboard the frigate Luisita on June 13, 1859, after close to a century of the religious order’s expulsion from the Philippines in 1768," writes Alfred Yuson in The Philippine Star.
