Development Studies Program
Development Studies is a distinct field of multidisciplinary study, research, and policy analysis that is directed at understanding the conditions and processes of economic, social and global transformation. It is intellectually rooted in the search for perspectives and approaches towards comprehending and responding to complex development issues and dilemmas.
The Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University was established in 1986 to provide systematic, multidisciplinary formation for individuals who want to make effective contributions to the continuing effort to improve Philippine society.
Since its establishment in 1986, the Development Studies Program has offered undergraduate academic courses at the Ateneo de Manila University. The Development Studies Program has been offering a Bachelor of Arts degree in Development Studies. Since 2001, the Development Studies Program has been offering a Minor in Development Management to undergraduate Ateneo students.
In 2005, the Program offered capability building services for professionals. These services included a three day workshop on contemporary social development approaches for 34 faculty and social involvement professionals of the Ateneo de Manila University and a twelve day training course on microfinance was provided by the Program, in cooperation with the Social Enterprise Development Partnership, Inc. for 37 individuals from 11 organizations.
