AHS Football Team is first runner-up in Singa Cup

     The Ateneo High School Football Selection Team, first runners-up in the first ever Singa Cup!

Representing the Philippines in the U18 division, Ateneo de Manila High School’s varsity football selection team won second place in the first ever Singa Cup held from November 7 to 11 in Singapore. The Singa Cup was an international football tournament for youths. 

Gino Clarino contributed 3 of the 9 goals Ateneo scored in their first Singa Cup game against India. Clarino was also responsible for the two goals Ateneo scored against Singapore's German Eurpoean School in the cup's last game.  
Team Ateneo’s win-loss card at the end of the tournament was 3- 1 after they won their last game, 2-0, against Singapore's German European School. Both goals were scored by AHS senior Gino Clarino.  

The Blue Booters (though their Singa Cup uniforms are red and white) won their first game against India’s Rising Sun Soccer Academy on Monday, November 7, 9-0. Of Ateneo's nine goals, two were by Toffee Sumulong. Julian Roxas, Daniel De Jesus, Eric Figueroa, and Paolo Alilam scored one goal each. Gino Clarino scored three goals.

Ateneo also won its  second game, 2-0, against another team from India- the elite Bombay Gymkhana Colts- on November 8. The AHS' two goals were by Paolo Alilam.

Ateneo’s first loss was dealt by Australia’s Northern Territory Football Institute on Wednesday, November 9. Final score was 3-0.

Australia’s Northern Territory Football Institute won first place, while third place went to Singapore’s German European School.

The members of the AHS Football Team who played at the Singa Cup were Paco Achacoso, Miguel Almazan, Paolo Alilam, Poch Antiporda, Gino Clarino, Eric Figueroa, Alfredo Fucio, Daniel de Jesus, Jin Montemayor, Marcus Moulic, JP Oracion, Emilio Pelaez, Julian Roxas, Toffee Sumulong, and Rain Uybarreta.
